What this touchscreen test checks

  • Dead zones: every cell you drag over turns green. A cell that stays empty while your finger clearly passes over it is a spot the screen can’t feel.
  • Edges and corners: press Fullscreen first — cracked glass and lifted screen protectors usually fail at the edges.
  • Multi-touch: the counter shows how many fingers the screen sees right now and the most it has seen at once. Phones and tablets usually handle 5–10.

Touch not working in some spots? Try these in order

  1. Remove the screen protector and case. Bubbles, a thick tempered-glass layer or a case lip pressing on the edge cause most “dead” edges.
  2. Clean and dry the screen and your hands. Water, grease and some gloves confuse the sensor.
  3. Restart the device — a stuck touch driver is a common cause of a screen that ignores touches or “ghost touches” by itself.
  4. Charge with the original charger. Cheap chargers can add electrical noise that makes touches jump or miss.
  5. Install system updates. On Windows touch laptops, also check Device Manager → Human Interface Devices → “HID-compliant touch screen” is enabled.
  6. Test again in Safe Mode (Android) or after a reset of settings. If the same spot stays dead everywhere, the digitizer (touch layer) is damaged and needs repair.

Ghost touches and jumping input

If cells fill in by themselves while you aren’t touching the screen, that’s a ghost touch. It is usually caused by a lifted or dirty screen protector, moisture under the glass, a damaged cable inside the device, or a charger. Unplug the charger and remove the protector first; if it continues, have the screen checked.

Your privacy

Touches are processed only in your browser’s memory to colour the grid. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on a computer without a touchscreen?

You can preview the grid with a mouse, but the result needs real touch input. On a device without a touchscreen the test shows “Not tested”.

How many touch points should my screen detect?

Most phones and tablets detect 5 to 10 fingers at once, and touch laptops usually 10. If it never goes above 1, multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom won’t work.

Why does the grid reset when I rotate the screen?

The grid is sized to the screen shape, so a new orientation starts a fresh grid. Finish one orientation, then rotate and test again if you like.

Can a screen protector cause dead zones?

Yes. Thick or badly fitted protectors and cases that press on the edge are among the most common causes. Remove them and test again before assuming the screen is broken.
